Workout routines to lose weight and gain muscle

There are so many different types of workout routines for weight loss I imagine everyone has used or heard about one at a point in their lives.  From plans that aim to constantly reduce your calorie count to those that incorporate cardio exercise as a way to burn extra calories.  Some workout routines include meal replacement shakes and supplements and others even forget the nutrition and just focus on burning off as many calories as possible with various forms of exercise.  So what do you need to know to start reducing the kilos in a sustainable way?

Workout routines and weight loss

With all the confusion surrounding workout routines for losing weight it is difficult to know what will work for you.  There is so much variety out there and a new ‘program’ coming out each year, at least, how do people know where to turn?  Workout routines has an interesting approach.  Based around short periods of intermittent fasting and weight training, it seems like an odd combination.  However let’s compare it to ‘traditional’ approaches to weight loss programs.

  • ‘Traditional’ approaches to weight loss involve some form of calorie control.  This system does this through workout routines and short periods of fasting.  Regardless of how you do it the total calorie intake must be reduced.
  • Exercise should generally form a part of most weight loss programs.  Generally this has been done through high levels of cardio exercise, however the workout routines program utilises weight training with the theory you can burn more energy and increase your strength levels as well.
  • There are no supplements to take.  You won’t have to eat any weird or special food.  Often time and money is taken up during diets preparing these.
  •  All of the weight you lose will be fat, not muscle and you will still be able to have great workouts.

Workout routines requirements

Weight loss programs are many and varied.  They often only contain part of the picture i.e. either calorie reduction or exercise.  Workout routines need to contain both elements, preferably have no supplements i.e. contain everything that is needed and all of the weight you lose should be fat.  Weight loss programs are often dubious in quality but workout routines seems to stack up pretty well compared to most advice.

What I liked about these workout routines

  • It does not involve a restrictive, complicated diet that you have to continually plan for.
  • It aims to be a simple to follow diet involving no calorie control or other time consuming methods.
  • These workout routines were created with the goal of having a system that works for the long term not just the first few months, as can be the case in many diet programs.
  • The workout routines involve weight loss but also weight training.  So while you are losing fat you are also gaining strength and muscle.  

 

What I didn’t like about these workout routines

  • The focus of the program is mostly put on losing weight and the weight training part seems to get lost through the introduction.  It seems that they are both of equal importance in weight loss.  

Conclusions about these workout routines

The simplicity of the system is a great strength.  It means there are no time consuming calorie counting, meal preparation processes or tough choices at restaurants because you have to decide what foods fit with your diet.  Gaining lean muscle at the same time as losing excess fat puts the workout routines ahead of most weight loss systems.  Overall I give this 4.7 / 5 due to the advantages and the quality present.
